What is a Secretary General?
The Secretary General is the highest student position in the ECMUN program. Each year a Secretary General (SG) is selected from the existing ECMUN staff members. The Secretary General oversees all aspects of the program and is responsible for coordinating the work of the MUN club and Secretariat.

What is Historical Security Council (HSC)?
Has the same role as Security Council, but will discuss about the global events in a specific year. This year ECMUN is taking 1994.

What is United Nations Development Program (UNDP)?
It is the United Nation’s global development network. It advocates for change and connects countries with knowledge, experience, and resources to help people build a better life.

What is United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)?
It is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). Its purpose is to contribute peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universalize respect for justice, the rule of law and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the UN Charter.

What is a president letter?
It is a letter from the chair of the committee that explains the chairing style and topics in the committee. This letter also outlines the chair’s suppositions and expectations of delegates.

What is a position paper?
An essay detailing your country’s position and policies on the topics being discussed in your committee. A position paper is very helpful as it will help you organize your ideas, which will further your engagement and participation as you share your country’s position with the rest of the committee.

Can I use laptop during sessions?
The use of laptops is not advised during debate with the exception of unmoderated caucus for the purposes of writing working papers. However, the chair may allow that in the case of an active flowing debate. It is important to understand that in the case, this policy was abused, the chair will have full authority to prohibit the use of any electronic devices. In essence, laptops should only be used to write working papers and do research when the session is suspended.

What should I bring to the conference?
As your chair may or may not allow the usage of laptops during the sessions, bring your research materials and papers.

What happens if the rules are violated?
You will be warned by Secretary General and in extreme cases you may be suspended from the conference.

Will there be refreshments available throughout the day?
Yes, the conference will provide snacks and drinks. In addition, there are vending machines in the building as well as food, coffee and drinks that you can buy.
